A-Town Friends @ the Sandy Lagoon

Yesterday Maggie had a party at the Sandy Lagoon with Will, Caroline and Thomas and it was a p-a-r-t-y!!! Not only did they get to splash to their heart’s content, but they also got to pull weeds, eat snacks and enjoy some tasty beverages. I happened to leave at the same time that Krista, Lara and Cole left ~ leaving the house in a sad, sad state.

Barry happend to get home before we did and he as laughing as Maggie and I came through the door, saying that the house looked like a bunch of little kids had a HUGE party without much adult supervision. There were blueberries smooshed in the couch cushions and under the table, bunny shaped crackers scattered about,  and cans of San Pellegrino stacked outside our door. It did kind of look that way, and the kids had a blast. Isn’t that what matters in life ~ having a good time with friends?  The state of our home indicated that had happened, it might have been the blueberries that gave it away though.

Sometimes I feel like meeting people and becoming friends with them isn’t my strong point, but I’m working on reaching out to new friends in Maggie’s play group that we go to. I am, however, thankful that I’ve got great friends that I’ve known for a long time and have shared many seasons of life with. All three of the girls that came over yesterday fall into that category. Take Krista, for example: I met her in 7th grade and we became super close all through high school and the first couple years of college. When she was on her mission in Philadelphia I was working in Delaware and we had some fun times together in Philly. And then we kind of lost touch.

There was no rhyme or reason for us not being in touch and it went on like that for a few years, but then we both had babies and got back in touch. I have loved rekindling this old friendship because it doesn’t feel like work, it doesn’t even really feel like we missed much of a beat. We’re loud, tell long stories and talk about everything from what book is on our nightstand to Eddie Vedder’s vocals. I love it.

As we chased our babes around the house, Nicole, Lara, Krista and I  tried to hold conversations about life beyond motherhood, but those moments were fleeting because how can you have conversations not related to motherhood when you’re busy interjecting concerns about what somebody as put in their mouth or how a quick bop on the head can bring an onslaught of tears? Eventually we were all crammed into Maggie’s room trying to hold a conversation but within a few quick minutes a diaper needed changing, somebody bolted for the outdoors and the chaos continued.  I guess I mean the party continued.

My Child is the One With the Basket on Her Head

Will and Krista came over yesterday and we let Maggie and Will play together. I swear at one point they were standing at the window looking out at the Sandy Lagoon talking about how nice it’d be to go outside and play. Next time hopefully we’ll be able to eat popsicles and enjoy all things Sandy Lagoon.

Maggie discovered that a basket can be a great way to entertain guests and proceeded to ham it up for all of us watching.

Girlfriend kept the game going and at one point I was a bit concerned that she was going to walk into the wall with the basket on her head.

See how in the background of the above photo she is still trying to work the whole basket angle? She is totally trying to steal Will’s thunder.

I think finally Will was trying to tell her the joke was over and he wasn’t laughing anymore. She clearly doesn’t get the message because the basket is STILL on her head. Poor Will seems a bit defeated at this point, can’t a guy get his picture taken without Miss Basket Head behind him?

We compromised and got a shot of them both together on the bench. (Hey Cole, Will nearly toppled off also, so Caroline is in good company!)

And then Maggie’s hair threw a party on top of her head.

P.S. Did you hear that Thursday is the new Friday??? Yippie!!!
