Richmond Beach

It is rare that we take an afternoon or evening trip out of the house these days, with bed time closer to 7pm than it probably ever has been, the hours between 5-7pm are a whirlwind of dinner, baths, special time and bed time routine. But Little Miss Maggie took a nap the other day and so we ventured out for an evening stroll at the beach. We’ve got some great beaches just a few miles from our home that  we don’t use nearly enogugh. Not all of the are dog-fiendly and so when we go, we tend to choose the ones that Syd can come along. She’s happier for it, too. It was cold, and thankfully not wet, so we kept things moving along and stopped a few times to explore some driftwood forts that had been left behind. Audrey was beyond thrilled to chew on the log for a bit and Maggie liked throwing rocks into the water. Barry and I were happy to be outside….

Fake Camping 2013: Part One

I write often about how blessed and lucky I feel to be a mother, motherhood changed my life in so many ways for the better. Barry and I had a fantastic life that immediately got more wonderful once we became parents. That said, I would be a liar if I said that there were a few things I didn’t miss from my former life. Since sleep is the obvious thing that EVERY parent misses, I’ll go out on a limb and assume y’all either feel the same way or know what I’m talkin’ about. So, sleep aside, I think that I really miss camping and the ability to throw just a few things in the car and be set. The past FEW summers we’ve really abandoned that part of our lives and I miss it dearly. Without a shadow of a doubt, I know that we’ll get back into heading out with regularity, but we’ll probably have a lot more gear than when we were free wheelin’ singletons.

We took Maggie camping when she was just a fewmonths old and we just weren’t feeling that ambitious this time around. My brothers, Geneviève, and parents were willing to come ‘fake camping’ with us at Camp Janet for  a weekend in early August. It happened to fall on my mom’s birthday, as well as a weekend that my grandparents, Sue and Chach were able to come up to A-Town for a visit/concert. As far as Maggie could tell, it was one more time that a group of her favorite people got together, with the bonus of a tent set up in the yard at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. These pictures are from the afternoon of our arrival. . .

HHS Part 2

Tonight as Maggie was trying to fall asleep she mumbled to me that she wanted to ‘go back to vacation’ and I have to say, it made me SO proud. We live a very rich life that is full of happiness, but we’re also a crew that loves vacation and our life really slows down a bit once we shift in to vacation mode. Even though our trip up to Harrison was short, it sure was sweet and I can’t wait to go back….or at least go somewhere else. To know that Maggie’s sense of adventure was heightened by our trip, makes it all the more exciting to get out there and see things.  Here are the rest of the images from our trip to Canada. Not pictured is the car ride home….where Mags was devastated to be ‘leaving vacation, ‘ which was both sweet and  exhausting to listen to.
