Non Perishable

Dear T-Baby,

I found this picture of  us tonight while I was transferring a picture of Maggie to an old USB card from college. Who knew we looked so stinkin’ cute back in the day, right?  This picture was taken at Danielle’s wedding and my hair is SO short! I’m getting my hair cut tomorrow and Barry’s one request is that I don’t return to ‘the bob’. I think it is safe to say that my hair won’t be chopped tomorrow, but it is kind of cute in this photo, I must admit.

I’ve been feeling so happy lately. Down to my bones happy. It’s strange because I was pretty happy before this new wave of happiness came. This week has been filled with a bunch of people that I love and I was so excited about having such a wonderful week and then I came across this picture and was reminded that I’ve got a number of friends (like you!) that I think about a ton, but really don’t see. I could blame it on you being in another state, having a baby,  or whatever but really I think I’m just bad at keeping in touch with some important peeps in my life. Forgive me?

What I love most about our friendship, though, is that when we actually do hang out it is as if no time really has passed and we go on joking and talking normal. The other day I had this same type of conversation with my friend Krista and we decided that our friendship is non-perishable. I think you and I have a non-perishable relationship too.

Plus, when I look at this picture it reminds me of where I’m headed. I mean, I’m determined not to always have these hips and motherly roundness. I plan to always be motherly, but the roundness has got to go. Slowly but surely I’ll get there. Just tonight as I hooked Maggie into the Ergo I had to cinch it up a wee bit more, and that felt like a tiny thing to celebrate. Blah, blah, blah.

Well, I just wanted to (publicly) say that when this picture popped up on the old USB card, it made me smile. Remember when we did Ski to Sea and you were trying to be a boss from the front of the boat? Or remember when I lived up the street from you and Rayna and we’d walk to the gym together grumbling about how tired we were, but at least we were going to the gym. What about when you came and met Barry and I in Australia with a backpack that was the size of YOU! T-Baby, you crack me up.

I hope you are finding things that make your bones happy. If not, you can always move in down the street from us and we can create some more bone-happy memories. I’ll work on getting Rayna and Danielle in on it too.

Love

Hannah

We Like it That Way

At first when Josh sent us these pictures I had a moment where I wished that we would have been dressed in something other than stripes, plaid and an orange jumper. But then I reminded myself that we’d look somewhat ridiculous in a matchy-matchy get up because we aren’t really like that anyhow.

We’re a stripes and plaid family through and through and there isn’t much purpose trying to act like otherwise. Plus, what really matters is that we’ve got these pictures to capture our life right now and look how happy we are. The only thing missing is a lazy Pug named Sydney.

Plus, this is exactly what Maggie looks like when she is super pumped up about something and letting out a high-pitched squeal. Look at her face – she is happy as a tiny clam. Well, a clam that is still in the 90th percentile for height and weight.

See, she doesn’t care if we’re wearing matching outfits or even matching patterns. She just cares that we’ve got index fingers to hold on to and smiles to match with her loud squeals.

Next time that we have Josh take our pictures – and there will be many, many more times – I’m going to remember how much I love these photos, because it isn’t the stripes, plaid and orange that makes us smile, being together is enough for us.

Plus, black and white is always an option!

Maggie Has Another BFF

For a couple years in college I lived in a townhouse with three other girls and it was one of the best times in my life. We named our house The Palace and cemented friendships that  will last a lifetime. Nicole was the only other person in the house that stayed for both years, just as I did. There are many, many stories that could be told about that time in our lives, but the end of those stories are all the same – Nicole and I always have fun together.

She came to visit me while I was living/working in Delware/New Jersey and we went up to New York – days before September 11th. We also road tripped to California together, listening to mixed CDs that we made from our downloaded music from Naptster – way before iTunes.

Jump ahead nearly ten years and we’re both married and both have little tiny babies. Well, Nicole has a little tiny baby and I’ve got Maggie.  (As I learned yesterday at Maggie’s 6 month appointment, my child is anything but little.) We took Maggie to meet Caroline last weekend and she is such a doll with tons of hair and a tiny, perfect face!

At first Maggie was shocked that Caroline was so upset. Maggie did some stares and even tried to tug on Caroline’s shirt to comfort her. That didn’t work at all.

So, Maggie did the only thing she knew to do to make Caroline feel better: she started crying too. It was cute in a really babyish type of way.

Maggie’s big girl cries.

Caroline’s little baby cries.

I hardly remember when Maggie was that tiny and I’m sure that Nicole and Josh can hardly imagine what Caroline is going to be like in another 6 months.

Also, Josh took some fancy pictures of us and here is a bit of a teaser. As you can see I am making a really awesome face. I need to learn to stop talking when somebody is taking a photo. Other than that, I love the picture.
