Staycation Continues

sydney

Barry’s parents and grandparents came to visit and it was so wonderful to have them here to enjoy part of our Staycation.  I had the delicious opportunity to make Pioneer Woman’s Strawberry Shortcake Cake; however, I conveniently forgot to mix in the dry ingredients before I put it in the oven….it’s okay now, but there were a series of events that led me to believe that perhaps there would be no cake. Luckily, it was delicious.

We went to Larc’s (Lara +Marc = Larc) house and met their new dog, Jazzy. She is amazingly well behaved and super cute.  The Tubby Torpedo stayed home because the last time that we visited Larc with Sydney she ended up hiding under a chair all night. We figured that she’d probably rather stay home than go to the country to hide under a chair.

The last time that we went to visit Lara and Marc we showed up in the dark and left in the dark, so it was great to finally see their house during the day light hours.

They are in the process of building a chicken pen for their little chicks. Turns Bmills & Arcoout, one of the hens is a rooster. Bertha is no longer Bertha, if you catch my drift…

Aside from the chicken pen and dog-watching, I got to drive a hauler-type machine. It was glorious, simply glorious. It was like a wheel barrow on steroids. I felt like it was going so fast while moving it from one side of the house to the other, but Marc informed me that that it maxes out at 5 miles per hour. Hearing that didn’t make it any less glorious.

Our staycation was superb because we got to see some people that we love, but we also got a lot done around the house.  I’m glad we’re not just getting home from a long drive after being couped up in the car needing to unpack and get ready for the week. Instead, we’re going to bbq and relax in our own sanctuary without the worries of a vacation ending, our staycation just keeps on giving, and giving.

No Shoes, No Service!

I lMamasitaove it when our gardener and landscape designer come to town. I finally can let my eradication dreams come true since I’m finally informed about what qualifies as a weed and what doesn’t.

Saturday night we went to see Riders in the Sky with my parents, Sue, Steve, and Grandma and Grandpa Elvrum. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but they were quite funny old men, not to mention the fact that they’ve been playing music together for 31.5 years! Very polished routine. I sometimes wonder what would have happened had I stuck with the violin.

After the show we attempted to have a bbq outside, but the weather just wasn’t cooperating. One thing I love about our house is the fact that people actually want to stay and enjoy it! My grandpa would always demand to leave at previous places I’ve lived, but now he’ll sit and talk home improvement, one of his passions!grandpa It should be noted, that he approves of our new door! Yee-haw!

Today, we hopped on the train and went and saw the Mariners win in the 13th inning! Longest. game. ever. Here’s a side note about my family related to long baseball games:

One time my dad and brother(s?) went to see the Mariners play a game. Going to Seattle involves driving and spending the day walking around. Somehow, don’t ask me how, Izak managed to get himself into the car and all the way to the Kingdome before he realized that fliphe had no shoes on. (Please keep in mind that Izak was a teenager, not a child.)

What do you do if you have no shoes on and you’re supposed to go to the M’s game?   You go to the game, of course!

The best part of the story?  It was a 19 inning baseball game. Legend has it they gave out free coffee to those that remained in the stands. Poor Izak had to wear tube socks for 19 innings. My feet would have been cold, but he’s a tough sailor!

So, today we went to the game, but we were all wearing shoes. It was only 13 innings long so no free coffee for us, not that we’d drink it…if it was a soy milk chai tea, you might convince me.

Centurions

Hannah and I have had several conversations about the small scar on my forehead. I’ve always told her it was from falling on a Centurion. I’m pretty sure she’s secretly been skeptical of this answer, because she’s never heard of the Centurions cartoon.  Let’s be honest, how many of you out there have? In fact, I was starting to doubt it’s popularity, and was thinking maybe it was a Canadian thing since I grew up so close to Canada. Luckily, Bradley Littlejohn found this fabulous YouTube video to prove that Centurions did in fact exist:

I believe I can thank Jake Rockwell for the scar.
