Ahoy!

Izak, my little brother who isn’t so little anymore, has been off on another sailing tip with his friends. Last time he came home I happened to be at my parents house while he shared with our grandma the course of his travels. She and Grandpa spent days upon days charting their boating trips and Izak is the only grandchild that has developed sea legs, so to speak.

He’s on a trip now in Canadian waters and I’m the lucky family member to recieve text messages from him reporting on his progress and safety. They are far and few betweeen, but give me a little tidbit of information to grab onto.

This is his latest text:

Welp, we made it to our turnaround, Jedediah Is., and everything is humming along nicely. Back south thru the Gulf Is. and home in 5-6 days. So, FYI, I’m safe.

I am excited for him to come home so we can hear about his latest adventure and see how he’s tracked it using his charts.

Birthday Wish

Hannah said I could do whatever I wanted on my birthday. I’m pretty sure she wasn’t thinking I’d tell her that I really wanted to go find a lake to go swimming in, but that’s what I really wanted to do.

When I was younger Brian and I used to officially end the summer with a swim on Cain Lake on my birthday. We pretty much spent our whole summer break on that lake each year, and my mom reminded me of our little tradition the other day. I decided it was a great tradition to bring back.

When I got home from work Hannah, Sydney and I hit up Martha Lake for a little dock jumping and water splashing.

It reminded me that I need to do more stuff like this in my last year of twentyness.

Celebration Weekend

Updated 9/18/2009 With Grading of Guesses

————————————————————-

My birthday weekend is approaching, but Hannah won’t tell me what is happening. The only thing that I know for sure is that our calendar has this upcoming weekend blocked out with the title “celebration”. Since good celebrators often make predictions I thought I’d make a guess about this weekend and see how close or far off I am.

Excellent point about being a good celebrator made here, Grade : B+

Normally Hannah likes to celebrate my birthday for the entire week leading up to my actual birth date. She has something she calls the birthday bag ready and waiting for me when I come home or wake up each day. However, that’s not the case this year. To her dismay, lots of people have been asking me about my birthday week.

It was the first week of school, and she was a very busy girl.

“Great. The one year I don’t do it”, she keeps saying. But always with a barely detectable smirk on her face.

Something tells me this year could be a bit different. Plus, Hannah has done an amazing job of not hinting about her plans (very unusual. I can’t remember if one of her 30 before 30s was to keep my birthday plans a secret or not. If not, it should have been).

Not a 30 before 30 item.  A husband should have this list memorized, Grade: F

Here’s what I know. Err… What I think I know:

1. There are no plans for Sydney to go stay anywhere.

This was true, and she did come with us.  In fact, I think she enjoyed the weekend even more than we did.  She lived up to her party girl image, Grade: A

2. We have both proven to be poor physical gift givers, and tend to lean more towards giving experiences.

The gift of experience was the route Hannah went, Grade: A

3. Hannah seemed to be worried about having her camera charged. This may or may not be significant since this is often the case for the new paparazzo in my life.

It turned out that having a battery charging outlet was not a problem.  Although, I did qualify this guess by pointing out that Hannah is usually concerned with her camera battery’s status, Grade: C-

That’s it. I’m basically taking a shot in the dark here but my guess is that we head west towards the coast for the weekend. Perhaps some camping.

No camping involved, and we didn’t head towards the coast, Grade: D

As a second guess (good celebrators make backup guesses) I predict that we head towards Woodinville and check out the Willows Lodge.

Another excellent point about backup guesses, because this one wasn’t too far off.  We ended up going to the Salish Lodge in Snoqualmie where we were able to spend a much needed weekend with just the two of us.  Well, and one hard partying pug.

I’ll check back in later to grade my guesses.

Overall Guessing Grade: C+

Note: this is not an average of each grade I have assigned above, but an overall feeling of how I guessed overall.
