A Party and a New Friend

Our weekend started off pretty relaxed and low key. We’ve been shifting things around and it seems like each room hasn’t quite recovered. The day after Christmas we got rid of our TV. Not on purpose, but just more because we never really used it and it took up a ton of space. I only kind of miss Oprah. Friday we spent time reading and sipping on hot beverages – it’s the new us apparently.

Saturday brought my parents and Sparky to visit. They got to see Maggie play in the Radio Flyer up and down the hall and I’m pretty sure my dad wished that he had ear plugs because Maggie would not tone down her squeals of glee.

Sunday we braved the roads and headed to A-Town to celebrate Midge’s Birthday – Happy Birthday, Grandma! – and my aunt Nancy had brought some old home videos of all the cousins. It was hilarious to watch and also really sweet at the same time. The highlight, by far, was a snippet of my older brother bustin’ a move. I laughed so hard I was crying. I think as a teacher I would have really enjoyed him…

On our way back home we stopped to meet Jeff and Jill’s new baby, Jenna. She is SO, SO sweet and perfect. Maggie was really tired by this time and quietly played with some of Jeff’s old toys. At one point Jeff put Jenna down next to Maggie for a photo, and Maggie bopped her on the head. Luckily, Jenna slept through the whole thing.

Once we got home it was bath time and snooze time. Well, we wanted it to be snooze time, but Maggie had a different idea. She threw a party for a while and we sipped on tea and talked about our weekend and potential snow.

Young Guns

Last night Maggie and I went to a jewelry party for a few hours and on our way home I called Barry. He told me that he had something to show me when I got home that would make me laugh. Turns out that he had turned on his old laptop from a zillion years ago and discovered a ton of old pictures of us.

As we sifted through the hundreds of photos, we found ourselves belly-laughing at some of the ridiculous  things we did, wore or thought needed documenting. We were babies – just 21 years old – when we met and many of these pictures reflect our age. Lots of camping pictures, car trips, hikes and blurry anecdotes of our life together. It made my heart so happy to see us together, so in love.

We ended up staying up well past midnight, ultra late in our world,  last night rehashing our past and celebrating where we are now. Of course we’re excited about our future, but we’re pretty dang happy right now.  Seeing all the old photographs really affirmed for me the need that I’ve had lately to document our life and take pictures of us together. There will come a day when the photographs of today will make us belly-laugh and reflect on this time.

B-Nut Flies Again!

Each afternoon when Barry returns home from work, only a short time passes before he has Maggie in his arms and he has turned into B-Nut! He is kind of like Clark Kent turning into Superman – except for the whole spandex outfit.

Too bad Superman doesn’t have a trusty sidekick, because if he did, Maggie would be a great one. She sits in his arms and happily flies around the house.

Actually, too bad that Superman doesn’t have two trusty sidekicks because, more often than not, Sydney is chasing around B-Nut and the flying baby.

When Barry first started rushing around the house with Maggie in his arms, it was to get her to stop crying – back when she was a b-a-b-y. Nowadays he still rushes around to trying to get her to cheer up from time to time, but with more and more frequency they are rushing around both cracking up.

Have I mentioned that I love my husband lately? Well, I do. He kind of reminds me of Superman.

Except the whole spandex outfit thing.
