Feeling Blue

This past weekend we decided to paint our bedroom and pick up some paint for our front room, something we’ve been meaning to do since we bought our house almost three years ago.

I’m not sure why it has taken us so long to finally get moving on some of these projects that could have easily been done before we had a baby. Eh, life is more exciting this way and we like to live life on the edge!!

We were able to assist Barry with the taping and Maggie spent a good portion of this time listening to the echo of her voice in the cavernous room. It was all sorts of adorable until she cranked it up a notch and our eardrums nearly split.

I can now say that I have no idea how to pick out paint and have it look the same on our walls as it does on the swatch. We were hoping for a small dusting of blueish grey; we now have a blue bedroom. As Barry painted, I wrangled Maggie and she decided to take her first steps. Yeah, she’s been taking baby steps for a while now, but she suddenly decided to take multiple steps in a row! Like 7 steps in a row!  I brought her into The Painting Zone and let her take some steps on our bed frame so Barry could witness the milestone.

By the time Barry was done painting and I was done wrangling, it was time for bed. The reality of even attempting to move things back in the room was daunting and a bit stinky. So, we camped out in our front room and literally waited for the paint to dry. I don’t have an ‘after’ photo, but things look amazingly better, if not a bit blue.

Almost Snowed In

Maggie and I headed up to Anacortes yesterday to spend the day with my mom because her schedule opened up. Plus, we had some other people we wanted to see too. As we fell asleep last night there were a few flakes of snow falling from the sky, but when we woke up there was a heavy blanket covering all that we could see.

We were not prepared for the buckets of snow that arrived at my parent’s door, but luckily they had us covered and I was able to rock some snow pants from 1970. We spent the morning walking out to get the paper with the dogs zig zagging between us and walking in the 8 inches of billowy white. After obsessing over what Mother Nature was going to do next,  I opted to attempt to get home before everything froze and we’d become permanent fixtures at Camp Janet.

Although I’m certain that my parents would have loved to have us logging some hours around their toasty wood stove, it was nice to safely arrive home this afternoon. Plus, I missed Barry and he missed us. Maggie had a MAJOR party when she saw him, it was all sorts of cute.

Tomorrow when we wake up to another blanket of white, I’ll be a bit sad that my dad doesn’t get to go get Maggie when she wakes up and carry her downstairs full of bed-head or that my mom doesn’t get to practice playing the piano with Mags on her lap. Maybe I’ll feel a tinge of sadness because I’m like that, a bit nostalgic, but then I’ll remember that I’m home, sweet, home!!

Me Sit Pretty

We’ve had a little situation going on with the chair in our office/guest room for a few years now and we finally got enough steam to get a movin’ on the whole project. It was actually pretty easy and we’re super pleased with the results.

From start to finish the project took a few hours of our time,a tiny bit of money and a trip to the fabric store. Oh, and we had to go to Ace Hardware also, but we kind of like to check in on those guys from time to time anyhow.

Maggie was very interested in the power tools and was helpful to a certain degree. Barry worked to pull out all the staples so that we could update the cushion and make it more of a comfortable place to sit.

I worked to make the straps a bit more snug. I must admit, I LOVE our new staple gun and if you need anything stapled, call me. I’ll show up with our new stapler because it is very, very powerful. Barry must really love me because he let me do all the stapling and I was happy as a little clam.

Barry and Maggie inspected the new shape I cut out of foam. Turns out I did a pretty good job, they approved.

We also added some batting, but didn’t take a picture of that step. We did, however, get a picture of the tug-and-staple dance that we got to do for the final step. I was a bit staple happy and Barry kept saying “whoa, whoa!’

Again, Maggie checked and showed her approval. The cushion is WAY more comfortable than the other one that was flat as the pumpkin pancakes we had for breakfast in Leavenworth.

Comparing the two, it is obvious how in need we were of a change. What in the world took us so long?

Wayyyyyyy better.

And just in case you were worried about what Maggie was doing while we were making our chair beautiful….well, the above picture about captures it. More on that later. Maybe.
