Holiday Magic with Thomas & Maggie

Today Maggie and Thomas met for their annual holiday gathering. Granted, last year they were in utero and things weren’t so colorful and jolly.

The funny thing about today’s party was that they each wanted to open the present that they brought. I’m sure this will be the case for years to come, but it was entertaining to see this tradition begin.

Maggie was a super-boss when it came to helping Thomas open his present. Apparently she thinks she is an expert after the other day.

I had to remind her a few times to let him open his present on his own terms.

She really didn’t listen to me. I’m beginning to see a pattern here. At least she didn’t try to eat his present….

But then she tried to poke his ear, which clearly is not something that Thomas was down with.

8 Months

Maggie,

Oh, goodness. This month you have truly started to move. I was mistaken a few months ago when I thought that you rolling would change everything. Turns out, crawling and wanting to walk are far more exhausting to keep up with!

You continue to love to pull yourself up to a standing position and now that you crawl, (!) it seems that you have discovered that there is more in this world to use to pull up on than either me or your dad. For the most part, you make decisions that are fascinating to watch, but sometimes you need to be redirected.

Take today, you had crawled over to the fire place – your  new favorite hangout – and had almost pulled yourself up. That was fine, it was the chewing with your four teeth (!) on the corner of the brick that made me question the safety of that choice. So, I pulled you away and tried to distract you. You made Stink Face and Square Mouth – a combo that makes me laugh to myself.

You experienced your first snow this month, along with some  more tasty foods. You also have learned to clap and kind of play peek-a-boo. Your favorite is to cover your face with either a paperback book or a basket and then pull it down. It is hilarious.  You’ve eaten a few of our/my favorite books this month, but we can still read them so who cares.

Sydney is becoming unsure about you, but you adore that Pug of yours! I’m pretty sure that you’d follow her to the moon and back. When she charges into the room you look at her and your whole face lights up. The same thing happens with your Papa. You guys spend tons of time rolling around on the rug and talking. Lately Papa and you practice walking up and down the hallway until his back says no more!

Christmas is days away…it’ll just be another day for you this year, but with lots of lights and tons of people. We have a tiny tree set up with some of our favorite ornaments on it. The lights interest you….

Mags, you’ve made 2010 so wonderful. We’re so glad you are here.  You are such a little firecracker and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

We love you, little one.

Shine on!
