That Mouse

Trick or treating brought a gift from Sue that has suddenly become Maggie’s favorite. The mouse from “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” has come to live at our house and Maggie has attached herself to the red-overalled mouse like nothing she’s loved before. That mouse has now become woven into the fabric of our lives, and he hasn’t even lived with us for a week yet. Yesterday we were all loaded into the car to go run errands and Maggie suddenly remembered that she’d forgotten her mouse on the couch. As we backed down the driveway, both Barry and I tried to console her by telling her that the mouse was guarding the house, usually a job for Sydney, but that only made the tears worse!  We backed ourselves back into the driveway, turned the car off, unlocked the door and rescued the poor mouse.

“You okay now, Mouse,” said Maggie to the mouse.

I sent the following to Sue to tell her about the love-fest Maggie is having with the Mouse:

Sue,

The mouse has so far:
been to costco
been walked around the block in maggie’s baby stroller
been read to (lots)
been invited to sleep with maggie (this never happens with anything else)
driven to emery’s house
left  in the car all day while barry was at work

Seems like a perfect gift.

She responded with this:

The mouse has so far:If you give a mouse to Maggie he will:

Go to Costco which will make him really cranky

So you will have to take him around the block in maggie’s baby stroller

So then he will be so tired he will need to be read to (lots)

That will make him sleepy and you will need to invite him  to sleep with maggie (this never happens with anything else)

When he wakes up in the morning he will want to be driven to emery’s house

This will make him so excited he will accidentally be left  in the car all day while barry is at workWhen he finally gets home he will be so hungry he will eat all of the snacks and you will have to go back to Costco.
