The Teepee is Still Cool & Other Goings On

I’m already kind of over this post, but since I’ve sat down to write it three different times, I’m just going to roll with it. Today was one of those days. After I took a shower this morning, Maggie decided that she wanted to put ‘poo in her hair too, and proceeded to dump a glob of shampoo into her open hand and slather it all over her dry hair. I tried to work around it by putting her hair in dog tails (as we like to call them) or even rinse it out without getting her fully undressed….it just wasn’t going to happen. So, we had a mid-morning bath, even though not twelve hours ago she’s been scrubbed clean. Regardless, she loved the tub and probably could have stayed in there for much longer, but I was ready to move on with our day.

I am pleased as a little plum that we’ve gotten the official ‘Spring is Here!’ notice practically hanging in our garden with daffodils and new little buds pushing to be noticed on trees and plants. Just this morning (before the shampoo incident) Maggie worked really hard to get her boots on by herself and head out the door. She informed me to ‘watch from window, Mama’ and proceeded to march out to the top of our yard to investigate the squirrels. I watched through the window and happily flipped our pancake breakfast until I noticed that she was pulling the flowers from the ground one-by-one giving them a hefty sniffing. Um….no, thank you. I’d like to enjoy those flowers, so please don’t pick them. Thankyouverymuch.

I am way, way, way backlogged on my photos and I don’t see an end point any time soon. Life just keeps barreling along. I’m not complaining. I love taking pictures and documenting our lives, but when this happens I fight the urge just to ignore everything that I haven’t gotten to yet and catch up to the NOW and be in the present. But some moments are far to precious to be ignored and left out. So, I’m going to roll with it and see how it goes. See how many of those moments I’ll hold onto….before the moments that are happening now, like shampoo in dry hair, get the best of me.

I was just going to leave it at that, but then it hit me, after looking at these images, which I thought had nothing to do with this post, that our daughter loves soap and water. She must because she is her father’s daughter and he’s a water ghoul if there ever was one. This scene of Maggie at the sink is a common one, mostly when she’s visiting my parents. She loves washing, washing, washing, scrubbing, scrubbing, scrubbing. And when there’s soap involved, it always ends up in her hair.

(And for those of you wondering, and I know there’s at least one of you: dish soap doesn’t really help get the knots out of curly hair. Nor does dry shampoo. Believe me, I was hopeful for a moment.)

Goggles & Books

Somebody {Maggie} discovered a pair of goggles and couldn’t be bothered to take them off this morning as she cruised around the house with her jammies on. (Tid-bit about the jammies: My mom gave them to Maggie and we put them on without realizing that they glow in the dark, the skeleton part at least, until bed time. Barry went to check on her later in the night and came back to report that ‘our daughter was aglow”. )

While running up and down the hallway yelling about goggles and towels she remembered her new Don’t Break the Ice game and proceeded to ask/demand that we play. Of course I couldn’t say no to a goggle wearing morsel. We’re working on taking turns. It seems that Maggie full-well understands what taking turns means; however, she really, really loves having her turn over and over again. Don’t we all?

WAITING FOR MAGGIE TO STOP PLAYING @ THE PARK

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This weekend while I was taking baby pictures and sipping on lemonade at Molly’s shower, Barry and Maggie had a special date of sorts. By the later afternoon we met up at my parents house so Barry and I could go to Erin and Karl’s St. Patrick’s Day party later that night. I had left Maggie and Barry early in the morning and really was excited to see them by the time I pulled in to  my parent’s driveway. I was also anticipating that they’d feel the same way and had envisioned a reunion of hugs and kisses.
Um. Didn’t happen.
Nobody else was home and both Maggie and Barry were settled into their chairs totally engrossed in books and magazines. After I had a split second moment to mourn my reunion that obviously wasn’t going to happen, I happily became a fly on the wall. Maggie is becoming more and more entranced with books these days. I find her in her teepee reading to herself aloud and she is often lugging books from one area to another. My mom had a gigantic basket of books sitting out and Barry informed me that Maggie, after checking to see if anyone was home, dove right in. Since I’m a self-proclaimed book snob, I’m pretty proud.
But it should also be noted that I’m equally proud that my daughter likes to wear goggles with her jammies and play Don’t Break the Ice at the same time. What I’m trying to say is this: I’m pretty partial to Little Miss Mags. How could I not be?
Molly & Her Fabulous Baby Belly
I had a baby-filled weekend with the newborn photo shoot and my friend Molly’s baby shower. Molly is due with her first baby a few days before Maggie’s birthday, so I’d like to think I know how she’s feeling. Two years ago I was about to burst, except, unlike Molly, I was pregnant all over my body. Even my pinky finger looked pregnant. Molly looks absolutely stunning and her belly just perfectly pops. It didn’t take much cajoling to get her to show me her tummy, and I’m so glad I asked because these pictures are priceless. I had a teacher friend that kept encouraging me to have pictures taken when I was pregnant, and I didn’t (see above about even my pinky being pregnant) and there are very few images of me with Mags in my tummy. And for this reason, I’m glad Molly let me snap a few photos.
What an adventure Molly and her husband Bill are about to embark on. Live will never, ever be the same for them. They’re about to join the coolest club in the world.
