Welcome, February!

Thomas and Lara came to HBHQ today so we could all head down to Seattle and attempt to run around Green Lake. We successfully completed a lap around the lake with no blood, a bit of sweat, and zero tears. Wahoo!! It was a fantastically beautiful day today and the lake was a bit crowded with every other Seattleite wanting to soak up the sun.

After our run (by the way, I’m using the term ‘run’ super loosely here because it was more of a jog, really) we went to U. Village to walk around and grab a bite to eat. Aside from Thomas needing to borrow a pair of Maggie’s leggings, the babes did great. We got to eat sushi (yummy, yummy in my tummy) and zip in and out of all the fun stores.

Sometimes I wish I was better at toting my camera around, but at this point I’m still carrying Maggie 99% of the time and it just feels like a bit lunky to haul around. I find myself wishing I could document more. I did happen to catch a couple pictures of Mags and Thom when they arrived at HBHQ. Maggie has a tendency to maul Thomas and he has a tendency to get upset about it. We’re working on them being happy together and accepting their differences.

The Results Are In!

In lieu of a long-winded description of what went down today – I am encouraging you to scroll down a bit and see for yourself. If your heart doesn’t break a little bit for poor Thomas, you might have a heart of stone. I again ask you to ignore the grain and blur of the photos.  Phooey on bad photos, but these are too precious to ignore.

Really, nobody crossed the finish line, but Thomas was mighty close. In all honesty, had he not had a meltdown, he would have won. Lara had to rescue him and he just needed to take a break from hanging out with the girls, I guess.

Meanwhile, Caroline was a bit upset that the long-awaited and much talked about Crawl-Off wasn’t going down.

She has been waiting months to see this show-down. Until next time, Sweet Caro, until next time.

Maggie is limbering up as we speak and Thomas is probably taking a hot bubbly bath.

A Party and a New Friend

Our weekend started off pretty relaxed and low key. We’ve been shifting things around and it seems like each room hasn’t quite recovered. The day after Christmas we got rid of our TV. Not on purpose, but just more because we never really used it and it took up a ton of space. I only kind of miss Oprah. Friday we spent time reading and sipping on hot beverages – it’s the new us apparently.

Saturday brought my parents and Sparky to visit. They got to see Maggie play in the Radio Flyer up and down the hall and I’m pretty sure my dad wished that he had ear plugs because Maggie would not tone down her squeals of glee.

Sunday we braved the roads and headed to A-Town to celebrate Midge’s Birthday – Happy Birthday, Grandma! – and my aunt Nancy had brought some old home videos of all the cousins. It was hilarious to watch and also really sweet at the same time. The highlight, by far, was a snippet of my older brother bustin’ a move. I laughed so hard I was crying. I think as a teacher I would have really enjoyed him…

On our way back home we stopped to meet Jeff and Jill’s new baby, Jenna. She is SO, SO sweet and perfect. Maggie was really tired by this time and quietly played with some of Jeff’s old toys. At one point Jeff put Jenna down next to Maggie for a photo, and Maggie bopped her on the head. Luckily, Jenna slept through the whole thing.

Once we got home it was bath time and snooze time. Well, we wanted it to be snooze time, but Maggie had a different idea. She threw a party for a while and we sipped on tea and talked about our weekend and potential snow.
