Let the Sharing Begin!

This summer has been jam packed and I’m not entirely sure where all our time has gone. Each week our calendar fills up with various play dates and adventures. This week we went and saw Caspar Babypants twice with two different groups of friends and it was delightful. If you don’t know who he is, check him out! I really enjoy listening to him and he’s local as well! I also like that he does a cover of Nirvana’s Sliver because I loved me some Nirvana back in the day.

Erin, Nicole and Lara all came down with their kids and trying to get a group shot of all of us has become a story in itself. Between all the children and all of us, we typically end up looking like a group of clowns. When I spend time with these girls, I’m never sure what to call them because ‘old friends’ just doesn’t seem to cut it. Nicole is the ‘newest’ friend, but I’ve known who she is since at least middle school.  Plus we aren’t old. Yet.

Although we loved bustin’ some moves to Caspar Babypants’ music, the highlight of the afternoon was by far time spent on Thomas’ quad. I haven’t laughed as hard as I did when Maggie got on to ride and was happy as a clam cruising along without a care in the world. Gavin, Erin’s son, was by far the most daring and attempted to take the quad for a ride up a hill full of roots and trees. Thomas did a great job sharing and I have no doubt that the new favorite toy to play with when we visit Thomas will be the quad.

A-Town Friends @ the Sandy Lagoon

Yesterday Maggie had a party at the Sandy Lagoon with Will, Caroline and Thomas and it was a p-a-r-t-y!!! Not only did they get to splash to their heart’s content, but they also got to pull weeds, eat snacks and enjoy some tasty beverages. I happened to leave at the same time that Krista, Lara and Cole left ~ leaving the house in a sad, sad state.

Barry happend to get home before we did and he as laughing as Maggie and I came through the door, saying that the house looked like a bunch of little kids had a HUGE party without much adult supervision. There were blueberries smooshed in the couch cushions and under the table, bunny shaped crackers scattered about,  and cans of San Pellegrino stacked outside our door. It did kind of look that way, and the kids had a blast. Isn’t that what matters in life ~ having a good time with friends?  The state of our home indicated that had happened, it might have been the blueberries that gave it away though.

Sometimes I feel like meeting people and becoming friends with them isn’t my strong point, but I’m working on reaching out to new friends in Maggie’s play group that we go to. I am, however, thankful that I’ve got great friends that I’ve known for a long time and have shared many seasons of life with. All three of the girls that came over yesterday fall into that category. Take Krista, for example: I met her in 7th grade and we became super close all through high school and the first couple years of college. When she was on her mission in Philadelphia I was working in Delaware and we had some fun times together in Philly. And then we kind of lost touch.

There was no rhyme or reason for us not being in touch and it went on like that for a few years, but then we both had babies and got back in touch. I have loved rekindling this old friendship because it doesn’t feel like work, it doesn’t even really feel like we missed much of a beat. We’re loud, tell long stories and talk about everything from what book is on our nightstand to Eddie Vedder’s vocals. I love it.

As we chased our babes around the house, Nicole, Lara, Krista and I  tried to hold conversations about life beyond motherhood, but those moments were fleeting because how can you have conversations not related to motherhood when you’re busy interjecting concerns about what somebody as put in their mouth or how a quick bop on the head can bring an onslaught of tears? Eventually we were all crammed into Maggie’s room trying to hold a conversation but within a few quick minutes a diaper needed changing, somebody bolted for the outdoors and the chaos continued.  I guess I mean the party continued.

Wagon Rides and The Sandy Lagoon

According to my baby book, I frequently rode in the wagon with my older brother out to the mailbox to get the paper in the morning. I don’t have a memory of this but the proof lies in my mother’s documentation and perhaps a few photos.  Maggie  had her first wagon ride at Thomas’ house the other day, and while Thomas was cool as as the other side of a pillow, Maggie held on for dear life and was serious as a tornado.

In the end, a great time was had by all, but Thomas was the Master Wagon Rider by far.  Thankfully the wagon has little cup holders, so next time we’ll be able to fill up their cups with tasty beverages and they can enjoy a drink if they get parched. Phew!

Caroline had a ride earlier in the day with Thomas, and opted just to watch from afar while the ‘big kids’ took their ride. I predict next time she’ll wedge her way in and wear her sunglasses the whole time.

Back home at HBHQ, we had the much awaited GRAND OPENING of the Sandy Lagoon!

The construction crew (me and my screw driver, Maggie and her water bottle, and Sydney with her beef neck) showed up and put the Sandy Lagoon together. Who knew it would require so many screws or that there were so many parts?

(Thanks Christina, Charlyn &  Trace for the gift! We love it, obviously!)

At this point the Sandy Lagoon is lacking sand, but Maggie added some huge boulders to make up for that. This morning Barry asked Mags if she has her season’s pass to the Lagoon ready, but if I understood her correctly, and I think I did, she is considering going to the Lagoon a few more times before becoming a full-on member. I think she wants to see what the fuss is all about.

By the time the Sandy Lagoon closed for the day (or maybe the sun went away and somebody was ready for her nap) Maggie was wholly convinced that the Sandy Lagoon is a great way to spend some time outside. I have no doubt that we’ll be back at it again and again.

Based on their end-of-the-day conversation yesterday, I’m convinced that both Barry and Maggie will be Season Pass holders to the Sandy Lagoon at HBHQ. Maggie convinced Barry by telling him about the boulders that she moved there.   I, on the other hand, need to go tickle my toes for a few more minutes in the water just to make sure I’m convinced the lagoon is relaxing.
