Grammy’s Garden

First, thanks for your messages and comments regarding my last post. I’m feeling excited, bright-eyed and adventurous about the future. I’m brewing some ideas and who knows where it’ll go, but it feels good to have encouragement from very important people in my life.

We went up to A-town last week for a few days, while Barry was out of town, and when we pulled into my parent’s driveway it was about two shakes before my mom and the girls were working in the garden pulling potatoes out. These shots were all taken within the first 15 minutes of being there. Doesn’t take long to get your feet dirty at Grammy and Grampy’s house, just the way they like it.

I grew up in a home where we always, always had a garden. I’d be given the salt shaker to take out to the garden to shake on any slugs, and sometimes I feel like I’m doing my girls a disservice not having a huge, spectacular garden to stomp around in. I have some very vague memories of honeysuckles and the wood in the house we lived in until I was 5. But then I double check my thumbs and they haven’t turned green, so I find a way to make peace with it and appreciate all the hard work and beauty that my mom’s garden provides.

(And these pictures are only a slice of things that are growing…)

Maggie Turns Four: Part Two

s birthday table

Our girls are lucky enough to have a very, very large circle of people that care very deeply for them. Many of these people live within driving distance of us and we get to see them frequently (or maybe some might say not enough?) and for that we’re blessed. When it came time to plan Maggie’s family birthday celebration, and realizing that it fell on Easter, I felt the need to make sure that we had a sit-down meal all together.

I have many great memories from my childhood of both sets of grandparents, and extended family,  celebrating Mother’s Day together, and it’s nice that we can give that same sense of family-connectedness to my girls as well. Many of our very favorite people came and helped to celebrate our girl on her birthday. My friend Nicole graciously provided salmon that her husband caught just a few days before, the local bakery made Maggie’s cake, and most everybody else filled in between. I joked that I out-sourced everything, and I’m well aware that everybody helped, provided and made the day especially special.

I’ve got one more batch of pictures from this day to share….they’re too sweet not to be their own post.

On The Fourth Of July, I Give You June

This is what our June looked like. Lots of time outside playing with the water. What isn’t pictured is all the sprinkler play and sidewalk chalk we’ve been doing…..or the post-sprinkler popsicle mess, or our friends that we’ve had wonderful play dates with. Anywhoodle, we’ve been up to no-good, making messes and having a grand ‘ole time. We’re off to meet up with some friends at the beach for some celebrating of “Norf ‘merica’s birfday,’  as Maggie likes to say it. Happy 4th,  Peeps.
