Darling Darlene and The Old Lady

audrey-2

Oh, my. The girls these days have been cracking us up with some of their games and thoughts.

STORY NUMBER ONE

Lately they’ve been playing a game where Audrey is “Darling” and every, single thing that comes out of Maggie’s mouth either starts or ends with her addressing Audrey as “Darling.”

“Darling, come back here.”

“Stand stil, Darling”

“Lets’s put a leash on, Darling”

It goes on and on. The other night Adurey was marching around the house, while Maggie was burrowed in her room working on a project. Audrey intoduced herself as Darling, but it really sounds like Darlene….which is the best, most perfect, fake name. I have an aunt named Darlene, but I’ve never met a young person with that name and hearing it come out of Audrey’s mouth is just hilarious.

Darling Darlene marched around the house, checking in with us and checking in with Maggie. And ever since we’ve had two Darling Darlenes walking around.

STORY NUMBER TWO

Our neighbor gave us some coupons to use at Subway and last week we decided to use them instead of making dinner at home. Since it seemed like a fancy thing to do, and the girls nicely asked, we opted to dine-in.  (Perhaps we need to get out more if the girls think eating at Subway is fancy….whatever.) So, we’re eating and Audrey is singing her heart about anything and everything that she sees. She’s singing about her sandwich, her flip-flops, even some friends we haven’t seen in a while. But then she looks out the window and her lyrics change.

“Old Lady, Old Lady, OLLLLDDDDD LAAAAAAADDDDYYYYY!!”

I look outside and confirm that there is most definitely an old lady outside.

Audrey’s music continues. Such detailed, and spot-on lyrics, except the lady is probably only 55.

“Old Lady, Old Lady, OLLLLDDDDD LAAAAAAADDDDYYYYY!!”

Then the lady decides to come in to Subway, which normally I’d be fine with, but we were the only ones inside the establishment.

“Old Lady, Old Lady, OLLLLDDDDD LAAAAAAADDDDYYYYY, Old Lady, Old Lady, OLLLLDDDDD LAAAAAAADDDDYYYYY!!”

My eyes bugged out of my head and Maggie’s did as well. Barry, lucky Barry, was still on his way home from work.

“Old Lady, Old Lady, OLLLLDDDDD LAAAAAAADDDDYYYYY, Old Lady, Old Lady, OLLLLDDDDD LAAAAAAADDDDYYYYY!!”

I asked Audrey to quiet down, or change her tune, but by that time I’m nearly certain that OL (old lady) noticed us and Audrey singing at her.

She smiled at us.

Then I decided that maybe she was an OL and was hard of hearing.

“Old Lady, Old Lady, OLLLLDDDDD LAAAAAAADDDDYYYYY, Old Lady, Old Lady, OLLLLDDDDD LAAAAAAADDDDYYYYY!”

Riding in the Rain

It didn’t matter that it was raining or that it was long past bed time. What mattered was that her sister would push her to the top of the hill and then help launch her at full-speed towards the bottom. She only ran into the bird bath and garden once….other than that, totally worth the skipped bath and late bed time. Fearless Little Danger Cat our Audrey Bell.
