Working on the Chain Gang

Last Thursday Hannah, Brian, and I met up with my dad to go watch cousin Ross’ football game. He plays outside linebacker for the Everett high school C team. The game went about how I thought it would and the high school football experience from a fan’s perspective was about how I remembered it.

Upon learning of my impressive past employment history, Hannah had to get on the phone and spread the word.

What I had forgotten about were the officiating crews. Back in high school I somehow was able to land a job working on the chain gang for the home C and JV football games at BEHS.

I’m quite certain there are striped jerseys hanging from the gym rafters at the school in honor of our crew’s professionalism and efficiency. Yet, somehow I had forgotten about the chain gang ever being a part of my life.

I wonder if Hannah would be ok with me seeking part time employment as a football official. It is, after all, a tough economic environment and I have past experience to draw from.
