My World Through a Filtered Lens

My life – and yours now- is much better now because I have a camera. That means you get lots more HB updates with fancy pictures…like this one:

Sydney

or this one.

I can’t help it if I have the most photogenic (read: lazy) Pug in the PNW. I swear, she just eats up this whole photo shoot idea. Things around HBHQ have picked up steam with the weather officially deciding to switch over to Spring.

Barry mowed the lawn for the first time and we chopped down a zillion pieces of bamboo.  Have you ever in your life attempted to chop down bamboo? Here is  a valuable piece of advice: don’t.

Because I’m happy as a clam about my new best friend camera I’ll give you a bit of TMI (Too Much Information). I got punctured in my butt from a piece of stray bamboo. Punctured, I tell you. Wowie, wow, wow, it hurt. I think I’m still recovering. It was at that point that I handed over my chopping tool and let Barry have at it.I went and checked out the new blooms on the yellow thing outside our guest bedroom.

This is me as a clam:

Now that I’ve over-shared about my butt and the fact that Sydney should be on the animal version of America’s Top Model, I ought to get going to hang out with my man…..

Suffering.

Barry Opening DayI am suffering. You are probably suffering. This is life without a camera. No posts, no pictures, no updates. It’s horrible. Poor Tamara . She said that she read the last post at least ten different times. Do you know what Tamara looks like? I’d post a picture of her, but I don’t have one. Instead, I’ll post a picture from Opening Day 1993 or so.

Don’t worry, the suffering won’t last long. A new camera is on the way….I think.

Why so Serious?

BarryThe story goes that Barry was a very serious kid. Apparently, his first grade teacher was concerned that he was too serious. What does too serious look like for a 6 and 7 year old? Bow Tie

As a teacher, I enjoy kids that make me laugh, and many times the ones that make me laugh are the serious ones. Last week I had a student tell me that she thought one of our volunteers was  from ‘Sweetland.’  She wasn’t too far off the map, and I didn’t have the heart to correct her.  We had a whole conversation about different accents and languages, but constantly came back to our volunteer’s accent from Sweetland.

We have a cBarry & Brianollection of Barry’s Childhood Memories on video from his Uncle Bill. I love getting them out and watching them….they are hilarious. A couple of weeks ago Brian and Darcy came over for the night and we got to watch them together. Brian cruising quickly in and out of focus like a bullet. Barry, the older brother, behaving, well, like an older brother trying to get Brian to keep pushing him in the wagon or share grapes, certainly not looking too serious by my standards.

Looking through the HBHQ photo archives, I’m finding that there are many, many, many more dorky pictures of me than there are of Barry. Maybe being serious means that you always look cute in pictures…I’ll have to keep that in mind next time I mug for a photo wearing hot pink overalls.
