Sparky left HBHQ this morning after Flip and Janet got back from their winter excursion. Being the good dog owners that we are, we thought we’d get Sydney used to being the only dog in the house by getting out her toys that were in hiding during Sparky’s stay.
Sydney seemed a little mixed about the toys, so we decided to play a game of “Pug In The Middle” with the tennis ball. Basically, it’s keep away with a fancy name. Hannah and I sit on opposite ends of the hallway and roll the ball back and forth at various speeds while the pug in the middle tries to get the tennis ball.
Sydney was pretty into the game, and proved to be semi-skilled at it. Before long she was resembling Patrick Roy in his goal keeping hey-day.
“Okay, time to step it up a notch”, I thought to myself, and introduced the bounce pass. Perfect. The second coming of Roy wasn’t able to stop it, but she seemed to have a plan for the next pass, because she crouched down low to the floor with her tail wagging at full speed while she waited for Hannah’s return volley.
I should point out that neither Hannah nor myself really want to be the one who lets the pug in the middle win, even if she does slightly resemble a talented hockey goal tender.
When Hannah saw Sydney crouch down she knew she had to put a little extra on it to sneak by.
BLAM!
Hannah scorched a one hopper that that Sydney ended up taking directly in the face. I can’t tell for certain, but I think Sydney’s nose just got a little flatter. What I do know is that she’s walking around like a boxer who just finished up 10 rounds. Left eye at half mast. I’m pretty sure she got a little Dunlop fuzz in there, and isn’t too pleased.
Actually, she’s refusing to re-enter the game. So much for my goal-tending pug on YouTube video.
