Walk it Out

This** will come as no surprise: we love our dog. We love her so much that we get up before anyone else in Edmonds has even popped out of their R.E.M. cycle to walk our precious pup. We come home from work, and take her on another walk. We even play frisbee and tiger with her daily. No matter how much we love our dog or blog about her, she still hates her harness.

As you might recall, our dog isn’t exactly slender. She’s got a fat neck. Since she’s got an extra neck roll, it is a must that she wear a harness out the door. Sydney fears and doesn’t like hates the harness. She will often hide and silently wait us out if she’s lucky. Today I couldn’t find her after I kindly invited her on a walk. After checking her usual spots, I found her hunkered down in her crate.  Even after I unzipped the top of it she continued to appear fearful of getting the harness on.

We’ve tried everything from treats to hiding her harness until the last moment. Barry even read the Dog Whisperer book. Nonetheless, our dog still hates abhors the harness. Currently, as I wait her out she’s camped out under the guest bed.

Do you have a dog that is too busy cleaning the house to go on a walk?

UPDATE: Just as I was sitting down to a fresh cup of tea you know who decided to leave her cave under the bed and join me. Luckily, Barry got home so we can both trick her together. Yippee!!

Actually, she was excited to see Barry until he mentioned the word “walk” before he knew about the current situation.  Apparently, he didn’t see the Amber Alert above the garage when he pulled in.  She’s now hiding behind the couch in full woe-is-me moping mode.

**Enough with the dog posts! I know, I know.

Dear Dixie Chicks

Dear Dixie Chicks,

I’m ready for a new album. I really am. I’ve been listening, listening and listening some more to your old stuff. I even have been jamming to some REALLY old stuff. It’s time. You might not think it is, but I’m really ready. I got married and maybe you can give me a new album as a wedding present. I think your invitation got lost in the mail, in case you are wondering. Here’s what I was doing when I got your other albums:

1. Wide Open Spaces – I was living in Bellingham and going to school.

2. Fly – Driving from California to Arizona with the Wilbur boys. I made them listen to it.

3. Home – Belfast, Ireland. I walked through bombed out neighborhoods to get this. I LOVED this album. Almost more than Ireland…..almost.

4. Taking the Long Way – Teaching….

4.5 Top of the World – Chach gave it to me after I got home from Hawaii.

5. waiting, waiting, waiting….oh, and waiting ever so patiently.

Honestly, I’ve learned all the words and I’m pretty sure my husband and coworkers have too. I was never really mad at you for your “comments”. Nope, I kept your cds and rocked on. Are you lacking ideas? You could write about Obama (video) and all the hope he gives people of our generation. You could write love songs for newlyweds. You could even sing songs that have already been sung! Whatever it is, just give my ears some new goodness to listen to.

Sincerely,

Hatalie Elaines
