The girls are exceptionally excited for this year, probably because it’s the first time Audrey really gets it. The magic of the season is seeping out of her with questions and cheerful proclamations. Maggie, on the other hand, keeps announcing that Christmas is about LOVE, not getting presents. (Although she’s kept a tally of presents that get placed under the tree…) She’s worried that perhaps we’re the ones that need that reminder. Maybe she’s right because I always have the oh-crap panic about not having the right amount of stuff to pass to others or give my children.
Leading up to today, Christmas Eve, we’ve been to numerous events (cookie parties, plays, gingerbread parties, play dates, fancy meals, etc.) and spent as much time doing, and we’re really kicking it into slower gear today, making not-so-fancy pizza dough, going to the beach and being together.
Tomorrow we’ll pack it up and head North to the sets of grandparents, where the kids will bounce off the walls with excitement and we’ll hopefully be able to glean some of their joy and call it our own.
It’s so fun to have kids that fully and wholly believe in Santa…..so, cheers from us to you on this Eve before Christmas.
May you believe in all the goodness of this season.
